For over nine decades, Song of India has been creating fragrances inspired by nature, guided by generations of craftsmanship and a deep respect for India's rich aromatic heritage. What began as a small family perfumery in Old Delhi has grown into a globally recognised home fragrance brand, with products enjoyed in more than 45 countries.

Our Origins.

Every great fragrance begins with a single note. Ours began in the narrow streets of Old Delhi in 1932.

It was here that Jagdamba Prashad Mathur founded Mathur Perfumery Works, creating natural perfumes, aromatic oils and incense using time-honoured Indian perfumery techniques. Flowers, herbs, woods and resins were carefully blended by hand, with an unwavering belief that exceptional fragrances begin with exceptional ingredients.

More than a business, it was a craft built on patience, authenticity and a deep respect for nature. These values became the foundation of our family legacy and continue to guide every Song of India product today.

Our Journey Through the Years

  • 1932

The Beginning

Jagdamba Prashad Mathur established Mathur Perfumery Works in Old Delhi, laying the foundation for a family legacy built on natural perfumes, aromatic oils and incense, crafted using traditional Indian perfumery techniques.

  • 1950s

Preserving the Craft

The family craft was passed to Durga Prashad Mathur, who preferred a simple life devoted to his craft rather than expansion. Alongside Raj Rani Mathur, he continued blending pure oils using traditional recipes and time-honoured methods, preserving the essence of the family's perfumery.

  • 1960s

Global Discovery

As India welcomed travellers from around the world, many discovered our fragrances and carried them home. Their appreciation introduced our creations to new cultures and sparked growing international interest in our family perfumery.

Introducing Song of India

Inspired by growing international demand, the Song of India brand was introduced to share India's rich fragrance traditions with customers around the world, marking the beginning of our journey as a global fragrance brand.

  • 1988

Global Expansion

A new chapter began as Raj Kumar Mathur and Anju Mathur established Song of India's office in Seattle, USA, creating a strong presence in North America and supporting the brand's international growth.

  • 1990s – Early 2000s

Expanding Manufacturing

Under the leadership of Late Ashok Mathur, supported by Rajni Mathur, Song of India entered a new phase of growth. While Ashok Mathur expanded manufacturing with multiple production units in Noida and Delhi, Rajni Mathur focused on exports, international trade fairs and building lasting relationships with customers across the world.

The Fourth Generation

With Ankit Mathur and Sanchit Mathur joining the business, Song of India entered its fourth generation of leadership. Together with Rajni Mathur, they continue to drive innovation, strengthen global partnerships and invest in modern manufacturing, product development and sustainable growth.

Organic, Certified.

The launch of Organic Goodness, our certified organic collection, reflected our commitment to natural ingredients, responsible sourcing and products created for conscious living, while reinforcing our focus on sustainability and wellness.

  • 2018

Retail in India

After decades of serving customers around the world, Song of India opened its own retail stores in India, bringing the brand closer to the country where its story first began and connecting directly with Indian consumers.

Building the Future

Today, Song of India continues to grow as a globally recognised fragrance brand and trusted manufacturing partner. With a 200,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art manufacturing facility under construction in Greater Noida, we continue to invest in innovation, sustainability and the future.
